Anthropic Expands GSA Partnership, Offering 40% Discount on Claude and Related Products

Anthropic has expanded its partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA), offering a 40% discount on its Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and Claude API products. This agreement, effective immediately and extending through cloud providers in the coming months, applies across all product surfaces, benefiting federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments.

The expanded partnership is part of a broader initiative aimed at supporting government agencies in their technological advancements. Anthropic is launching a dedicated program to assist agencies in implementing and maximizing the use of Claude, drawing from best practices utilized in the private sector.

Currently, approximately 500 US federal, state, and local government organizations are using Claude. Weekly active users of Claude for Government have increased eightfold since February, and federal civilian agencies’ usage has grown 20-fold in the past year. These organizations manage critical systems, often operating under tight budgets and long procurement cycles. The agreement is designed to support this work, allowing agencies to apply Claude to complex challenges without a large upfront commitment.

The discounts are estimated to save the government $1 billion, with no minimum spend requirement, enabling agencies to pay for the usage they consume.

Government agencies are leveraging Claude for various critical tasks, including managing backlogs, records, and forms, and modernizing outdated code. Claude for Government, which delivers Claude’s coding and agentic work capabilities with near-feature parity to commercial offerings at a FedRAMP High authorization level, was made generally available on September 30.

Agencies can also use Claude through Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud’s Vertex AI. On Bedrock, Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High and selected models for DoD IL4 and IL5 workloads in AWS GovCloud. On Vertex AI, Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High.

Claude Enterprise is currently in the process of obtaining FedRAMP Moderate authorization through the FedRAMP 20x program, marking the next step in bringing commercial-level innovation to the government sector.

Government agencies can purchase Claude at the OneGov discount through GSA’s Multiple Award Schedule. Anthropic’s Public Sector team is available to discuss options with departments and agencies interested in using Claude.
