Meta Projected $10 Billion Annual Spend on Rival Anthropic’s AI Tools

Even as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg publicly criticized a rival AI startup, his own company was quietly projecting annual expenditures of up to $10 billion on Anthropic’s AI tools, according to reports from The New York Times.

This internal spending projection by Meta surfaced during the current year, highlighting the significant financial commitment Meta is making to Anthropic. In July, Anthropic itself had projected total annual revenue exceeding $65 billion. This means that Meta’s potential spending alone could have accounted for a considerable share of Anthropic’s projected revenue.

The discrepancy between Meta’s critical stance and its substantial financial backing of Anthropic underscores the strategic importance Meta places on the startup’s technology. Anthropic, which has been developing advanced AI models and infrastructure, is clearly seen as a key player in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
